Fishing Breaks

fishing

Fancy a fishing break at our lovely historic coaching inn, with fishing rights to the Wylye river?

Here at the Swan we are lucky enough to have the river Wyle pass right by the side of our spacious gardens and, even better, we have the fishing rights for the waterway. The River Wylye is a beautiful chalk stream fly fishing river. Rising from springs near Longleat it winds its way down the beautiful Wylye Valley, part of an area of outstanding beauty. The Wylye River is known for the quality of its fly hatches and the prolific natural spawning of wild Brown Trout as well as its superb Grayling stocks.

The Trout season runs from 1st April to 15th October with fantastic Grayling fishing available from then until 14th March. From 1st December onwards trotting as well as fly fishing are allowed for Grayling. You can fish by casting upstream from a position either wading in the stream or from the bank at the side of our garden. Dry fly fishing is very good for most of the season.

If you fancy making your fly fishing part of a short-break in the Wiltshire countryside then The Swan @ Stoford could be the perfect base for you. Please note that you need a personal fishing license in order to use our facilities. Contact us to discuss the best room rates -

We don't charge for fishing in our river.
